In a continuation of yesterday’s interview with RetakeME3 Organizer Eric, new Mass Effect 3 news has emerged.

BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka released a statement yesterday addressing the issues Mass Effect 3 fans had with the endings. Going so far as to say:

” Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April. ”

What does this mean for the RetakeME3 movement? Is it time to ‘release the line,’ so to speak? I asked Eric what Dr. Ray’s words mean for the movement, and this is what he had to say:

Dr. Ray Muzyka’s statement today was a step in the right direction, but not much more than that. We’ve been promised that we will receive word about what they are working on in April, and that they are taking into account the issues their fans have with the game.

However there are some issues with his statement as well. He states that “Most folks appear to agree that the game as a whole is exceptional, with more than 75 critics giving it a perfect review score and a review average in the mid-90s.” Mass Effect 3 is a critically acclaimed success no doubt, but Critics, and game reviewers are not the ones to be listening to when fan reaction is the problem. Metacritic give ME3 91/100 based on critic scores, yet user reviews are holding steady at 3.7/10 a HUGE difference. Ratings for ME3 on Amazon are at 2/5 stars based on user reviews. Gaming companies could survive without critics, but they can’t survive if people wont buy their games.

When thousands of people are giving a game a 2 star rating based on a 10 minute period in the game you have to realize that there is a problem with the game. A lot of the reviews say something along the lines of “This was the best Mass Effect game…right until the end. Now there just isn’t a point anymore.” When 10 minutes ruins not only a single game but an entire series, there is a serious problem.  While I appreciate Dr. Muzyka’s statement I feel that he, and everyone else at BioWare and EA involved with this needs to realize that for thousands of there most fervent supporters if the ending isn’t changed we won’t be there for them anymore. Even if the critics say their next project is the greatest game ever made.

As for what it means to the Retake movement?

It means that we will continue to hold the line

There you have it! Keep watching for later this week when I release the full audio interview with the RetakeME3 founder and ask him what’s next for the organization.
