Grand Theft Auto V has had its release date significantly shifted – from Spring to Autumn 2013. The game is now slated for release on September 17th.

Officially, the title – whose new birthday breaks with Rockstar’s tradition of an April-May release window – will be for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. (PC and Wii U versions have yet to be announced.) However, this disregards the omnipresent rumors that next-gen consoles will arrive later this year. It is entirely possible – though in no way confirmed – that the delay may be tied into its release as a next-gen, or at least cross-gen, game.

The excuse Rockstar has given for the reschedule – allowing “additional development time” for the title – will do little to discourage fantasies of just how good a next-generation Grand Theft Auto game could look, especially in the wake of the stunning screenshots that we exalted over earlier today.

Hopefully, it also means that the agonizing wait that fans must now endure will, ultimately, be worth it.
