Thief Developers Say “PC are Important!”

If you ever mention stealth games, you’d be remise to pass over Thief, the grand-pappy of all stealth games. It featured Garrett the Thief of the Ages, and involved you blackjacking and light-extinguishing your way to victory. it was a staple of PC gaming in the good old days, and defined a genre that has been enjoying a ton of success lately.

As such, you’d imagine that A PC port of the reboot of this classsic title would be mandatory, right? Well, in fact, the PC port seems as if it is going to more than mandatory. Luckily for us, the developers of the new thief game are taking the PC port seriously:

“No doubt on our side the PC version is extremely important. Just playing Thief with a keyboard and mouse it’s different so we must make sure we support that well. For making the PC version we think like a PC gamer, for consoles it’s a different type of beast. It’s one of our goals to make sure that the PC version isn’t just a copy of the console version.”

The more I hear, the more excited I get…

How could you ever give these guys up!?

Rock Band to Loose Rock

When you think of Rockband, you normally of, surprise surprise, Rock music. And when I say Rock, what do you think of? Well, if you have a good sense of musical taste, the word Metallica should come to mind. I mean, even in the words of Johnathan Davis of Korn: “I love that they’ve done things their own way and they’ve persevered over the years and they’re still relevant to this day. I think they’re one of the greatest bands ever.”

So, what kind of Rock game would Rock band be without Metallica? Well, I’l leave that decision up to you, but here is the bad news:

As of right now, the only content affected [by the licensing changes] is Metallica Pack 01, the tracks “Ride The Lightning”, “And Justice For All”, and “Blackened”, all of which were released on November 20th, 2007. This content has already been pulled from the RB Store and will be pulled from 1st party marketplaces in the immediate future. After that, they will no longer be available for purchase.
A fluke of licensing, or a travesty of Rock Power? Either way, it’s a gosh darn travesty…

I mean, look at those guys! They are the very definition of what it is to be a Rock Star, and it is a damn shame they won’t be as integral a part of rock band as they once were.

Orth Learns a Lesson

Adam Orth, Creative director at Microsoft, had a VERY rough week. It all started with a veyr off beat twitter comment:

As often happen, things like this snowball. This seems to have snowballed into the biggest, most unwieldy snowball to have ever existed. While there is some question as to whether or not he was having an incredibly convincing session of teasing with a good friend, or was actually just being one of the most bull-headedly unaware people on Twitter I have ever encountered, it ultimately ended up with Orth leaving microsoft. The team at Microsoft had this to say:

“We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter.”

Proof that what you say on the internet DOES matter.

Bethesda Announces that it’ll be Announcing an Announcement

so, how do you like announcments? what about pre-announcements, and teaser trailers?Okay, EVERYONE loves those, but what about the Announcement, of the pre-announcement that will be arriving in short order?

Yes, that is supposed to sounds ridiculous. that is kind of the boint. As much as I love Bethesda (and the potential for another fallout) but COME ON!

“We will be announcing new stuff and making some noise, and I think when we get the chance to show you guys what we’re up to, that you’ll sit up and take notice.”

For real?!? I have to say, this was both a confusing and dissapointing moment for me. Has our culture of hype and anticipation falledn so far as to be antici[ating the moment of anticipation? I get the idea of wanting people to know about your further releases, but….come on.

Diablo Fan Film is Flipping Shweet

Finally this week, a Teaser. Yes, that was meant to be irony in light of the last story.

I’m a big fan of fan projects (also apparently badly worded sentences), and I stumble across a pretty superb one this week. This teaser for a Diablo fan film perfectly captures the Gothic atmosphere of the genre, and also looks pretty snazzy for a fan project. It IS in French, so consider that as you will. The creator, Michael Shaack, has done some pretty impressive work on a number of fan projects, so it would certainly be worth your time to check his stuff out!
