As awesome as the trailer for Mega Man introduction was, you won’t be seeing anything like that in newest Super Smash Bros. game from Nintendo coming to Wii U and 3DS next year. Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai said in his bi-weekly column in Weekly Famitsu that CG cutscenes would be excluded from the next installment in the franchise and their would be no sort of story mode similar to “Subspace Emissary” from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Sakurai stated that the main reason behind this decision was because people would upload the cutscenes of the game onto the internet and that took away their “wow” factor in-game.
“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet.” Sakurai lamented. “You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”
Sakurai did assure that the 3DS version would include a feature that would “act as a separate mode from the standard versus play.”
Though is was neat to watch the Nintendo characters interact, I think it is probably best we don’t get another story mode because “Subspace” was pretty awful.
